I’ve never been a big fan of Apple but I have to admit that the iphone is quite good! I’d like to know if this issue about the iphone 4 is important or not. I’d like to buy the new one and I was wondering if the calls actually drop more or not. Sorry if it’s a bit off topic Many thanks

This setup is actually not the most efficient way to run a USB/iPhone charger. I’ll be working on a revision this summer that will be much more efficient, and even smaller.

If you’re going to use this LaVie Panel for your charger, I would recommend that you use a large heat sink. The 5V regulator is doing a lot of work, and it gets very very hot.

Nice one Brennan thanks for showing us in great detail. I have the same pannel and was not sure on how to go about it ontill i came across this page. I just have one question would this set up need a heat sink?

Angelo,

The HYmini is a portable wind turbine. I don’t know the specifications of it’s internal battery, but I’m sure that it would be an Ok battery to use with this setup. You’d have to build a circuit specifically for charging the battery, though.
